The Supervisor’s Office will also be closed on Tuesday February 21, 2023 to attend the Association of Towns Annual Meeting which provides valuable insight, guidance and education that assists in Town operations. 

The Town of Ossining is seeking volunteers for the Civilian Police Complaint Review Board (CPCRB)! 

The Town Board is seeking two residents for the Town Board to recommend to the Village of Ossining Board of Trustees to be volunteer members of the Village’s Civilian Police Complaint Review Board, one as a member and one as an alternate member. 

Pursuant to an inter-municipal agreement, the Village of Ossining Police Department provides police services to the Unincorporated Town of Ossining.  

The purpose of the Civilian Police Complaint Review Board is to provide for civilian participation in the review of investigation of complaints made against police officers. Under the Village Code, the eligibility requirements to be on the Civilian Police Complaint Review Board in either a member or alternate member capacity are as follows:

  •         Must be a resident of the Unincorporated Town of Ossining
  •         Must be at least 18 years of age
  •         Must be able to attend at least 75% of Board meetings – which are generally on the second Tuesday of every month at 6:00 p.m., either in person or via Zoom video conferencing
  •         Must undergo training with the Village Police Department
  •         Cannot be an elected official or employee of the Town or Village, or be an immediate family member of an elected official or employee of the Town or Village
  •         Must be willing to submit to a criminal background check – which results will remain confidential and will be used only for the purpose of determining eligibility
  •         Must not have been convicted of a felony, or have been incarcerated or on probation or parole in the past five years

This week we had the pleasure of attending the ribbon cutting for the reopening of the Dunkin Donuts & Baskin Robbins on Croton Ave. We wish them the best of luck in their newly renovated location. 

The Ossining Board of Education honored the late Mr. Kadoza Worthy the School District’s first black board member and president and longtime OHS employee Mr.Ulric Watson with the Hester Bateman Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award for their contributions to the Ossining School District. Congratulations and well deserved to them both.  

We also want to congratulate the Ossining High School’s Girls Varsity Cheer team who made it to the High School Nationals championship that was held in Disney World this year. Go Ossining!

The Ossining High School Accounting & Business Club students will be helping to preparing tax returns on Mondays starting February 28th until April 17th from 4 PM - 7 PM  in Room 202 at Ossining High School. 

Here are some but not all of the many events going on and around the Town of Ossining:

  • To celebrate Black History Month, Westchester Collaborative Theater in partnership with Shades Rep will present “Haven”, a play written and directed by award-winning playwright/director Samuel Harps. 

  • The Bethany Arts Center will be screening and having a discussion of the documentary Shared Legacies: The African American - Jewish Civil Rights Alliance on February 22, 2023 from 7 PM - 9 PM. 

  • Ossining Village Historian, Joyce Cole, will interview Ossining resident and children’s book author Joyce Markovics and NYU film professor and filmmaker, Alrick Brown on Sunday February 19, 2023 at the Ossining High School. They will be discussing their “Groundbreakers: Black Movie Makers” Children’s Book Series.  

  • Join Teatown on Saturday February 25th and Sunday February 26th  for their Maple Tree Sugaring Days and experience the sights and smells of sap bubbling into golden syrup and get to learn how to identify and tap a maple tree. 

  • Join Habitat Stewards / Ryder Park for National Invasive Species Awareness week with vine cutting, detangling and more on February 25th 9-11AM at Ryder Park.  

  • Sing Sing Youth Lacrosse is now open for Spring Registration. The close off date is Wednesday March 15,2023. Spring Practice Schedule

Black History Month Events

  • Starting January 28th through March 3rd, at Bethany Arts Community there will a Black History month exhibit curated by Ossining Village Historian Joyce Sharrock Cole. The exhibit is free to the public. Curated tours can be scheduled and have a fee of $25 per person.
